Rescue efforts are underway after a deadly landslide buried a campsite near Kuala Lumpur. Malaysian officials said that at least 16 people were killed and 17 were still missing. Sixty-one people have been rescued. Over 400 personnel from several agencies have been deployed for search-and rescue operations. The disaster struck around 3 a.m. local time on Friday. The slide devastated a campsite near an organic farm on the outskirts of the capital. Authorities said that a massive wave of dirt and debris rumbled down and covered about an acre of land. Rescuers were sifting through mud and downed trees. According to local media, the area is prone to landslides, often triggered by forest and land clearance. The region is also currently in its rainy season.
