US President Joe Biden says it would be a mistake for Israel to occupy Gaza again.

Biden made the comment on CBS's "60 Minutes" program that aired on Sunday as Israel continued its air raids against the Palestinian militant group Hamas. The group controls the Gaza Strip.

Asked if it is time for a ceasefire, Biden replied that Israel has to respond. He said, "They have to go after Hamas."

But he said, "I think it'd be a big mistake," when he was asked if he would support an Israeli occupation of Gaza.

Another question Biden faced was whether the wars in Israel and Ukraine are more than the United States can take on at the same time.

The president described the US as the most powerful nation in world history. He said, "We can take care of both of these and still maintain our overall international defense."
