Israeli forces are continuing their attacks in Gaza, while negotiations with Hamas over a ceasefire in the Palestinian enclave face difficulties. Israel and Hamas remain far apart in negotiations on the ceasefire and hostage release. Israel demands that it be allowed to maintain troops in areas like the southern border with Egypt even after a ceasefire. Hamas opposes this. Israeli media outlets reported that authorities view the talks as yet to yield a breakthrough. They also reported that an Israeli delegation is expected to leave for Qatar, one of the mediating countries, on Wednesday for further talks to try to narrow the gaps between the sides. As negotiations face challenges, Israeli forces are continuing to launch daily attacks on the Gaza Strip. Palestinian media reported on Wednesday that 17 people were killed in bombardments in the southern city of Khan Younis and the northern city of Jabalia. Health authorities in Gaza say the number of deaths in the enclave has risen to 40,534. Israeli forces are also carrying out operations against militant groups in the Israeli-occupied West Bank. The Palestinian side said gun battles in Jenin and elsewhere early Wednesday killed at least nine people. Israeli forces also launched airstrikes on Tulkarm in the West Bank on Monday. They said the attacks killed five militants, increasing military pressure on the Palestinian side.
