First responder killed in Australia bushfires NHK

In Australia, a firefighter was killed on Sunday as the country's bushfire season gets underway.
In New South Wales, four homes were destroyed in the town of Bulahdelah and 16 in the suburb of Koolewong. In Tasmania, 19 homes were lost in the town of Dolphin Sands.
The 59-year-old firefighter was killed after he was struck by a tree as he worked to contain a blaze in Bulahdelah, about 200 kilometers north of Sydney.
Naomi Stephens, an official with the New South Wales National Parks and Wildlife Service, described the man's death as "a huge sadness to us as an organization."
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese told local media that this summer's bushfire season will be "difficult," with New South Wales facing especially tough conditions.
