Afghanistan's Taliban say the Unites States has lifted bounties on three of their senior officials, including interior minister Sirajuddin Haqqani. This comes days after the group released an American citizen it had held for about two years. A Taliban interior ministry spokesperson made the announcement on Sunday. The US had been offering a bounty of up to 10 million dollars for information leading to Haqqani's arrest. He heads the Taliban's hardline militant arm, called the "Haqqani Network." The faction is believed to be responsible for many high-profile attacks in Afghanistan. A 2008 raid on a hotel in Kabul killed 6 people, including a US citizen. The Taliban say the other two dropped from the wanted list are Haqqani's relatives. Washington has not addressed the matter. But as of Monday, Haqqani was no longer on the US State Department wanted list. He remains on the FBI's list. The Taliban released US citizen George Glezmann last week. The group captured him in 2022 while he was visiting Afghanistan as a tourist. The US has imposed sanctions on Afghanistan, citing the Taliban's human rights violations. But a senior Taliban official says the two sides are now working to improve ties.
