Leaders in Japan are closely watching the political turmoil in South Korea. They insist the two sides remain important regional partners. Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Hayashi Yoshimasa said on Friday that the two countries should work together to address a wide range of challenges facing the international community. He also said Japan will monitor the situation, and appropriately manage bilateral relations. Foreign Minister Iwaya Takeshi said the same day that Tokyo and Seoul are vital elements in a three-way partnership with Washington. He also stressed the importance of working closely with both South Korea and the United States, now and in future. The Foreign Ministry says high-ranking officials from all three countries will meet on Monday in Tokyo. The agenda includes North Korea's deployment of soldiers to Russia. Observers say the meeting is likely going ahead as a show of solidarity.
