Tokyo's tax bureau has netted one of the highest amounts of back taxes to be paid by a foreign firm. An overseas subsidiary of US company Epic Games forked over around 3.5 billion yen, or about 23 million dollars. The company operates online game Fortnite, with hundreds of millions of users around the globe. Sources say the Tokyo Regional Taxation Bureau found that the firm's Luxembourg subsidiary had failed to pay about 3 billion yen in consumption tax, around 20 million dollars, in the three-year period up to 2020. An additional amount for deficient returns was added to the total.
