A special train carrying North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has entered the Russian Far East. Russian government sources say Kim and President Vladimir Putin are expected to hold talks on Wednesday.

Russian railway sources say the train with Kim on board crossed the border on Tuesday morning. NHK filmed what appeared to be Kim's train on a coastal railway line in the Russian Far East.

Russia and North Korea both said on Monday that Kim would soon visit Russia at the invitation of Putin. The Russian president arrived in the Far Eastern city of Vladivostok on Monday to take part in the Eastern Economic Forum.

Kim's visit to Russia is the first in four years since April 2019. His meeting with Putin would be the second since the previous visit.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters that the two leaders' meetings will include one-on-one talks with only interpreters present. He said a formal dinner is also planned.

Peskov suggested that Putin and Kim may discuss military assistance, referring to the two countries' cooperation in sensitive areas.

The spokesperson declined to say where the talks will take place. He added that a news conference is not planned.
