A team with the World Health Organization is describing the largest hospital in the Gaza Strip as "a death zone" and the situation there as "desperate."
The WHO says they conducted an on-site inspection of Al-Shifa hospital on Saturday. Israeli forces had raided the facility, claiming that they were searching for Hamas's command and control center.
During the roughly one-hour inspection of the hospital, the team says it found clear signs that a bombardment and gun battle took place there. It also says it saw "a mass grave" at the entrance of the facility and was told more than 80 people were buried there.
The team says 25 health workers and 291 patients were remaining at the hospital. It says several patients had died over the course of the past few days "due to the shutting down of medical services."
The humanitarian situation is no better in southern Gaza, where people are being asked to evacuate in order to escape fierce attacks in the north.
In the southern city of Rafah, people are facing acute food shortages.
Video taken in the city on Thursday by cameraman Salam Abu Tahoun at NHK's Gaza office shows many people queuing up and waiting for a grocery store to open.
