A sightseeing boat carrying 29 people has capsized in a river in Kyoto Prefecture, western Japan, leaving one crew member dead and another missing. Police and fire officials said all 25 passengers were rescued after the boat capsized during a cruise down the Hozu River in Kameoka City on Tuesday. The officials said one of the boat's four crew members, 51-year-old Tanaka Saburo, died, and that another in his 40s remains missing. They said nine female passengers aged 13 to 54 were hospitalized due to minor wounds and mild symptoms of suspected hypothermia. The cruise operator said all 29 people onboard, including three children, were thrown into the river when the boat capsized. In the popular scenic cruise, crew members use oars and a bamboo pole to navigate down the river. The operator said the boat hit a rock and capsized about 15 minutes into the cruise after a crew member mishandled the rudder. Police and fire officials plan to continue searching for the missing person on Wednesday.
