A: Hey! Did you hear something about Palau?

B: No! What's going on?

A: They finally identified some remains from that big battlefield from WWII. Remember Peleliu Island?

B: Oh yeah! So many Japanese soldiers died there. What did they find?

A: DNA tests confirmed that three sets of remains are Japanese! It's the first time they’ve done that on that island.

B: Wow, that’s… kind of sad, huh? So many still missing?

A: Exactly! There are still around 2,400 missing. They found a huge burial site last year, probably over 1,000 people there.

B: That’s a lot. They’ve already confirmed 186 sets of remains.

A: They sent some to Japan for DNA testing. Now they’re giving the three sets to the welfare ministry.

B: Will they try to find their families?

A: They will! If they can identify them. The government wants to find *all* the remains by 2027.

B: Really? That’s a big goal! Are they doing anything to help?

A: Yeah, they’re giving the project more money. They’re sending a team to Palau more often too, and they’ll stay longer each time.
