Ukraine and Russia are at odds over the situation surrounding the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Kyiv says Russian troops have placed objects resembling explosives there. Russia says the Ukrainian side is planning an attack on the plant.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said on Tuesday that objects resembling explosive devices were placed on the roofs of the plant's No.3 and 4 reactors.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned in a video message of possible Russian sabotage at the plant. He stressed that it is the responsibility of everyone in the world to stop Russia's move.
The Ukrainian defense ministry's directorate of intelligence said earlier that Russians are planning a terrorist attack on the plant. It also said the Russian side notified plant employees to evacuate by Wednesday.
On Wednesday, Russian foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told domestic media that Zelenskyy intends to conduct a terrorist attack on the plant.
The US think tank Institute for the Study of War said on Tuesday that Russia is likely focused on accusing Ukraine of irresponsible actions around the plant and unlikely to generate a radiological incident at this time.
The institute says there is a possibility of provocation by Russians at the plant as part of its information operation ahead of the NATO summit scheduled for next week in Lithuania.
