Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy says his country is ready to hold talks with Japan to conclude a bilateral security agreement. Zelenskyy and Japanese Prime Minister Kishida had a video conference call on Tuesday. Zelenskyy posted a message on social media. In it, he thanked Kishida and the Japanese government for supporting Kyiv's peace proposal, which calls for the restoration of Ukrainian territory and the withdrawal of Russian forces. He said he invited Japan to help organize the Global Peace Summit. The plan will be discussed at the event. He added that his country appreciates the Group of Seven declaration on security guarantees for Ukraine that was adopted during Japan's presidency of the forum. The declaration says G7 member nations will provide long-term support to Ukraine to deter future Russian aggression. Zelenskyy said, "It is time to conclude relevant bilateral agreements in the framework of this declaration. We are ready to start this negotiation process with Japan as soon as possible." He added that he told Kishida about Ukraine's efforts to create alternative routes for grain exports. The exports have been stalled since Russia withdrew from a deal last month. The agreement allowed grain to be shipped from Black Sea ports. Zelenskyy said he and Kishida also discussed preparations for the Ukraine Recovery Conference that is scheduled to take place in Japan early next year.
