Russia attacks energy facilities in Ukraine with missiles and drones NHK

Russia's defense ministry says its forces launched massive attacks against energy facilities across Ukraine on Friday.

In a social media post on Saturday, the ministry said that Russian troops used missiles and drones to target important Ukrainian facilities that supply energy to the country's military industries and transportation systems.

It added that the missiles and drones hit all the targets.

Ukraine's defense ministry said 61 of 106 Russian missiles were shot down by Ukraine's air defenses. It criticized Russia for targeting civil infrastructure.

Ukraine's state-run power company Ukrenergo wrote a social media post on Saturday that said thermal power plants and power grids were hit by Russian drones.
It said emergency power outages were prevented by back-up generators that were quickly connected to the grid.

The utility added that the situation in Ukraine's energy system is challenging but controlled.
