Egypt, the host of the COP27 climate change conference, has unveiled an action plan to support the lives of 4 billion people vulnerable to climate hazards such as drought and food shortages.
Egypt unveiled the plan at a news conference on Tuesday. The plan includes 30 goals for the entire world to meet by 2030.
The plan calls for cutting per capita food waste by half compared with 2019 and increasing farm land yield by 17 percent through a shift to more sustainable agriculture practices, which reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
It also includes preservation of 15 million hectares of mangroves to prevent coastline erosion.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry, who chairs the conference, said he hopes the plan will contribute to measures that will mitigate the impact of climate change, calling it the most important issue in the world.
The plan costs up to 300 billion dollars per year. Egypt is calling on governments and businesses for their cooperation in funding.
