Japanese outfielder Tsutsugo leaves Texas Rangers Triple-A as free agent NHK

Japanese pro baseball player Tsutsugo Yoshitomo has been released from a Triple-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers as a free agent.

Tsutsugo has played for the Tampa Bay Rays, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Pittsburgh Pirates in the Major League for three seasons through 2022.

He signed a Minor League contract with the Texas Rangers this season, and was invited to the 2023 Major League Spring Training.

But Tsutsugo was not chosen for the MLB 40-man roster, and played for the Rangers' Triple-A affiliate instead.

Tsutsugo appeared in 51 games, hitting 6 homeruns and posting a .249 hitting average. He also drove in 33 runs.

In June, he hit 4 homeruns and posted a .3 hitting average.

The Rangers' Triple-A club announced on Thursday that Tsutsugo was released as a free agent.

He is now expected to look for a new club.
