Toyota: No price hikes for now in US following Trump tariffs NHK

Japan's Toyota Motor says it will not raise prices of its vehicles sold in the United States for now, despite US President Donald Trump's additional 25 percent tariffs on auto imports.



The Japanese firm also plans to retain its domestic production of more than 3 million units a year, as well as employment, saying it will maintain the current operations for the time being.



It has said meeting the 3-million threshold is essential to retain its technological capabilities.



Toyota produced about 3.12 million units in Japan last year. Over 530,000 of them were exported to the US -- a main pillar of the company's business.



The automaker wants to cut costs to cope with the latest development. But an executive says there are limits to their cost-cutting efforts, and that they will have to explore different approaches.



One such approach is whether to expand production in the US.
