Banksy unveils new mural in Ukraine town near Kyiv NHK

Anonymous artist Banksy has unveiled his new work in a Ukrainian town devastated by the Russian invasion, bringing joy and excitement to local residents.

Banksy posted a photo of the mural in Borodyanka on social media on Friday.

Painted on a wall of a housing complex destroyed by Russian shelling, the artwork depicts a female gymnast performing a handstand on a pile of rubble.

The town, located 50 kilometers northwest of Kyiv, came under fierce attacks and suffered huge casualties, along with the nearby towns of Irpin and Bucha.

A woman who came from Kyiv to see the mural said it was a historic moment for her country when people like Banksy were coming and showing the world what Russia had done.

A man said the mural was a symbol that Ukraine is unbreakable. He also said Ukrainians will return everything to its original state, regain freedom and rebuild a better country.

Western media reported that another mural which appeared in Borodyanka may also be Banksy's work.
It shows a child throwing an adult man in a judo uniform to the ground.

The media are speculating that the mural satirizes Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is a black belt judo athlete and is facing fierce resistance from Ukraine.
