Japan's Prime Minister Ishiba Shigeru has spoken by phone with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney. Their talks covered the potential economic impact of US President Donald Trump's sweeping tariffs. The two leaders spoke on Friday for about 30 minutes. Ishiba congratulated Carney for his party's victory in Canada's general election. They also confirmed that they will cooperate to tackle various challenges facing the international community. The talks came after Japan wrapped up a second round of tariff negotiations with the United States. Canada holds this year's Group of Seven presidency.
