Myanmar ethnic minority militia raids transnational scam center NHK

An ethnic minority militia guarding Myanmar's border says it has raided one of the transnational scam centers in the east of the country, near Thailand.



It's believed that many people from around the world, including Japan, are being coerced into carrying out fraudulent activities at these facilities.



Thai media quoted a Myanmar militia called BGF as saying it had raided a site known as KK Park.



Local sources say Chinese and other nationals suspected of orchestrating fraud have been detained.



They add that many foreigners believed to have been confined at the site have been released. It is unclear whether Japanese citizens are among them.
KK Park is known as a human trafficking hub, and a center for online scams and other offenses. Chinese crime syndicate members are believed to have used it in recent years to increase their activities.



The Myanmar militia says it intends to raid other fraud hubs, as well.
