South Korea's anti-corruption agency says it has transferred its investigation of impeached President Yoon Suk-yeol to prosecutors. The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, or CIO, made the announcement on Thursday. The CIO has been investigating Yoon together with the police over his declaration of martial law last month. Yoon faces charges of colluding with then-Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun and military commanders to start a riot by declaring martial law on December 3 for the purpose of insurrection. The investigation team arrested Yoon on Sunday due to concerns that he might destroy evidence. However, he has refused to cooperate with questioning since then. The CIO said on Thursday that, given Yoon's uncooperative stance, it decided that it would be more efficient to hand over the case to the prosecution, which has the authority to indict the president. The prosecution is expected to continue with its investigation and decide by early February whether to indict Yoon.
