Reports: US Secretary of State may visit China within weeks NHK

US media are reporting that arrangements are being made for Secretary of State Antony Blinken to travel to China within the next few weeks.

Bloomberg on Tuesday quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Blinken "plans to visit China in the coming weeks for talks with top officials, possibly including President Xi Jinping."

White House National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby said at a news conference Tuesday that the government would speak about "higher-level" visits between the countries in the near future.

Blinken's visit to China was originally scheduled for February this year.

But the trip was postponed after the US military shot down a Chinese balloon that flew over the United States.
The incident further strained US-China relations.

Diplomatic-level talks have been gradually resuming. US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink met with China's Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu and others in Beijing on Monday.
