Attacks against Israel by the Palestinian militant group Hamas are drawing condemnation and calls for restraint from around the world.
                
The US National Security Council said in a statement that, &quot;The United States unequivocally condemns the unprovoked attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli civilians.&quot;
                
The statement also said, &quot;There is never any justification for terrorism,&quot; and that National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has spoken to his Israeli counterpart. It said the US remains in close contact with its Israeli partners.
                
Britain&#039;s Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said in a social media post that he was shocked by the attacks by Hamas terrorists against Israeli citizens. He said, &quot;Israel has an absolute right to defend itself.&quot;
                
French President Emmanuel Macron strongly condemned what he called terrorist attacks against Israel, and expressed his &quot;full solidarity with the victims, their families and loved ones.&quot;
                
Russia&#039;s foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova expressed the gravest concerns for rapidly deteriorating situation in a social media post.
                
She unilaterally criticized Western countries, which she said are refusing a move toward peace negotiations. She added that the current exacerbated situation results from the fact that the United Nations and Security Council resolutions have been chronically neglected.
                
Turkey&#039;s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called for restraint from all parties at a congress for his ruling party in the capital Ankara. Erdogan said that the parties should refrain from acts that could exacerbate the situation.
                
Iran, which has provided Hamas with military support, also reacted.
                
An advisor to Iran&#039;s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a speech in the capital Tehran, &quot;the killing of Palestinian children and teenagers by the Zionists is carried out in the silence of international organizations.&quot;
                
The official also said that Iran will &quot;stay with the Palestinian Mujahedeen until the liberation of Palestine and Jerusalem.&quot;
