US entrepreneur Elon Musk has said the generative artificial intelligence developed by the AI firm he launched will be made available to users of his X social media platform as a paid service.
Musk apparently aims to compete with the company that developed ChatGPT.
In a message posted on Saturday on X, the platform formerly called Twitter, Musk wrote, "xAI's Grok system will be available to all X Premium+ subscribers" for 16 dollars per month.
Generative AI creates answers in natural sentences by just entering questions, and Musk says the Grok system is "designed to have a little humor in its responses."
At the first AI Safety Summit that took place in Britain on Wednesday and Thursday, Musk said, "Here we are for the first time really in human history with something that's going to be far more intelligent than us." He added, "So it's not clear to me we can actually control such a thing, but I think we can aspire to guide it in a direction that's beneficial to humanity."
Google, Amazon and Meta are also stepping up development of generative AI, further fueling competition.
