Russia carries out drone strike on Kyiv: Ukrainian officials NHK

Ukrainian officials say Russian forces have carried out a drone attack on Kyiv and the surrounding region, injuring one person.

Authorities in Kyiv said on Sunday that Iranian-made drones were used in the attack, and they were all shot down.

They also said three houses were damaged by falling debris, leaving a man injured.

In eastern Ukraine, fighting is apparently intensifying in and around the city of Bakhmut.

A US think tank, the Institute for the Study of War, said in its analysis on Saturday that Russian forces are likely responding to Ukrainian operations around Bakhmut by pulling forces from elsewhere in Ukraine.

In May, Russia claimed that its forces and the Russian private military firm Wagner Group had taken full control of Bakhmut.

But the Ukrainian side said on Thursday that its troops had seized the strategic initiative in the Bakhmut sector.

Ukrainian media quoted a senior military official as saying that there was no indication of Wagner mercenary units heading to neighboring Belarus as of Saturday.
The official reportedly said Ukraine's intelligence agencies are working to obtain more information.
