US federal health agencies have stopped updating their websites and posting on social media since President Donald Trump's administration was inaugurated. US media report that the organizations, which are under the Department of Health and Human Services, took the steps in line with the intentions of the new administration. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has not published its weekly report on public health information since the last update on January 16. The CDC website on influenza surveillance has not been updated since January 17. As of Sunday, the CDC, the Food and Drug Administration and the National Institutes of Health had not posted on the social media platform X since January 21, the day after Trump took office. US media outlets are reporting that the health department, as instructed by the administration, issued a pause on mass communications that are not directly related to emergencies or critical to preserving health. The media say such temporary halts in agency communications also took place during previous transitions of power. But they add that medical personnel are concerned about the lack of information during a season of respiratory diseases as well as uncertainties about the scope and duration of information pauses.
