The operator of Japan's Narita International Airport has reported record revenue for the fiscal first half through September. The earnings of the airport serving Tokyo got a boost from the weaker yen and an increase in overseas arrivals. Group sales rose almost 28 percent from a year earlier to 127.6 billion yen, or about 850 million dollars. That is the highest for the six-month period since fiscal 2004, when the airport was privatized. Net profit jumped more than fivefold in yen terms to the equivalent of 130 million dollars. Overseas arrivals at Narita totaled 10.79 million, topping 10 million in the period for the first time. The weaker yen helped boost sales at stores selling luxury brand items as well as restaurants. However, President and CEO Tamura Akihiko expressed a note of caution. He said global uncertainties remain, while Japan continues to suffer a labor shortage. Tamura said the airport operator will address these issues firmly and promote efforts to improve services at Narita.
