A visiting Ukrainian lawmaker has warned people in Taiwan that they should be prepared for any eventuality, even one that might seem unlikely, apparently with the threat posed by China in mind. Kira Rudik, a member of the Ukrainian parliament, made the remark in her meeting with the speaker of Taiwan's parliament, You Si-kun. Rudik paid a visit to the legislature with a Lithuanian lawmaker on Tuesday. Rudik told You that before Russia's invasion of Ukraine, people in her country thought that such a thing could never happen. She went on to say that the invasion has brought about a huge number of casualties, stressing that she wants people in Taiwan to learn a lesson from her country's experience. The people of Taiwan do not appear to regard what is happening in Ukraine as merely someone else's problem. But indications are that they generally think Chinese forces still lack the capability to carry out a massive landing operation on Taiwan. But Rudik dismissed such optimism, saying that people have to be prepared for even things that might seem impossible, although she stopped short of explicitly referring to China.
