US media outlets say the US Justice Department has fired more than a dozen of its officials who were involved in prosecuting President Donald Trump. FOX news and others reported on Monday that the officials worked on Special Counsel Jack Smith's team that investigated the cases against Trump, including the attack on the US Capitol in January 2021. A letter sent to those officials by Acting Attorney General James McHenry reportedly says that they could not be trusted in faithfully implementing the president's agenda in light of their significant role in prosecuting Trump. Trump was indicted for alleged conspiracy to defraud the nation over the Capitol riot and other charges. But those cases were dropped after Trump won the presidential election in November of last year. During the election campaign, Trump said he would fire Smith within 2 seconds if reelected. Smith resigned in January before Trump was sworn in.
