Japan's Prime Minister Kishida Fumio says a supplementary budget plan to fund a new economic package will be submitted to an extraordinary Diet session in October.
Kishida spoke to reporters on Friday evening after his government notified the ruling parties that the extraordinary Diet session will be convened on October 20.
Kishida said that the government will work with the ruling parties to draw up an economic stimulus package.
He also said that he would order an extra budget to be drawn up as soon as the package is finalized and be submitted to the upcoming Diet session.
The prime minister was asked by reporters if he intends to dissolve the Lower House during the extraordinary session.
He responded that he intends to focus on economic measures and other urgent issues, and that he is not thinking about anything else at the moment.
Kishida had not previously mentioned a timetable for submitting a supplementary budget plan.
That prompted some members of the ruling and opposition parties to speculate that Kishida was thinking of dissolving the Lower House this autumn for a general election.
