Biden orders Chinese-affiliated company to sell land near air force base NHK

US President Joe Biden has ordered a Chinese-affiliated business to vacate and sell a property it purchased near an air force base, citing national security concerns.

The White House said in a release on Monday that the business purchased real estate located within one mile of Francis E. Warren Air Force base in Wyoming in June 2022. The base is home to part of the US arsenal of intercontinental ballistic missiles.

The statement says the business then made improvements to use the property for specialized cryptocurrency mining operations.

It notes that the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States identified national security risks.
It said this is due to the proximity of foreign-owned real estate to a strategic missile base and key element of the US nuclear triad.

The US nuclear triad comprises intercontinental ballistic missiles, submarine-launched ballistic missiles and strategic bombers.

In 2023, a suspected Chinese spy balloon reportedly flew across the United States and intercepted electronic signals and communications of military facilities. Washington is increasingly wary of Chinese surveillance.
