The head of Hamas has expressed what he called a positive spirit in studying a proposal for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
Hamas issued a statement on social media on Thursday.
The statement says Ismail Haniyeh held a telephone conversation with the head of Egyptian intelligence. Egypt is brokering negotiations between Hamas and Israel on a pause in their fighting and the release of hostages held in Gaza.
The statement also says Haniyeh assured Egypt that a Hamas delegation would visit Egypt as soon as possible to complete the ongoing talks.
