A nuclear-powered US submarine has made a port call in South Korea, and defense officials in Pyongyang are bristling. A spokesperson says the move further escalates military tensions in the region.
                
The submarine arrived in the southeastern city of Busan on Monday.
                
The defense ministry spokesperson released a statement on Tuesday in the ruling Workers&#039; Party newspaper Rodong Sinmun, denouncing the United States for &quot;openly ignoring&quot; the North&#039;s security concerns.
                
The spokesperson warned the United States to stop provocations that stir up instability.
                
The spokesperson also says North Korea&#039;s armed forces would act to deter any threats to regional security and &quot;exercise the legitimate right to punish the provokers.&quot;
                
South Korea&#039;s Yonhap News Agency says Pyongyang is likely testing the administration of US President Donald Trump, who says he is prepared to reengage with North Korea.
