Hamas releases what it says is video of hostage NHK

The Islamic group Hamas has released a video of a man that it says is a hostage, in an apparent bid to pressure Israel and others as negotiations for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip remain stalled.

The video released on Saturday shows a young man holding his head and crying, pleading for an early rescue.

Israel has continued its offensive in Gaza. Qatar-based broadcaster Al Jazeera reported that at least 100 people were killed on Saturday alone.

The broadcaster said that among those killed were 12 residents in the south seeking food aid amid a serious food crisis.

Reuters news agency reported that air strikes destroyed a residential building in Gaza City, reducing it to rubble and leaving many residents there missing.

Meanwhile, a ceasefire between Israel and the Shia Muslim group Hezbollah appears to be holding in Lebanon, despite some Israeli strikes after the truce took effect. Israel accused Hezbollah of ceasefire violations.
