Russia appears to be set to decide whether to agree to a 30-day ceasefire proposal with Ukraine, after receiving information from the United States about the matter.
        
                    
                  
Russia&#039;s presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Wednesday that Moscow needs detailed information first about the US proposal for the 30-day ceasefire in Ukraine.
        
                    
                  
Officials from the US and Ukraine discussed the ceasefire proposal in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on the previous day. The US was represented at the talks by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz.
        
                    
                  
The officials&#039; joint statement revealed Ukraine expressed readiness to accept an immediate and provisional 30-day ceasefire, as proposed by the US.
        
                    
                  
After the talks, Rubio said the US will take the offer to the Russians. He expressed hope they will agree to peace, adding that &quot;the ball is now in their court.&quot;
        
                    
                  
US President Donald Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he hopes Russian President Vladimir Putin will agree to the ceasefire.
        
                    
                  
Trump added that US and Russian negotiators may meet Tuesday or Wednesday, and that he &quot;thinks&quot; he will talk to Putin this week.
        
                    
                  
Regarding these moves, Peskov said, &quot;We assume that, as was said yesterday in Jeddah,&quot; the US &quot;will inform us through various channels these days about the details of the talks and the understandings reached.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Peskov also said the Kremlin does not rule out the possibility of a summit phone call between Putin and Trump. He added it will be organized quickly if such a need arises.
        
                    
                  
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova also told local media that Moscow &quot;has not ruled out contacts with US representatives over the next few days.&quot;
        
                    
                  
Russia&#039;s Foreign Intelligence Service said its chief, Sergei Naryshkin, an aide to Putin, had a phone conversation with the head of US Central Intelligence Agency, John Ratcliffe, on Tuesday.
        
                    
                  
It also said the two intelligence chiefs agreed to maintain regular contacts in order to help ensure international stability and security, and reduce confrontation in relations between Moscow and Washington.
        
                    
                  
On the battlefield, Russian media reported on Wednesday that Russian forces have taken back a central part of the town of Sudzha in the country&#039;s Kursk region from Ukrainian forces.
        
                    
                  
The outlets carried footage of what appears to be soldiers raising the Russian flag on a square in the center of Sudzha.
