Tokyo police have sent papers to prosecutors on a man in his 40s for suspected online slander of the mother of a reality show star who committed suicide in 2020.
The police say they referred the Tokyo resident to prosecutors for suspected libel on Thursday.
Professional wrestler Kimura Hana took her own life after being attacked on social media for her conduct and remarks in the TV reality show. She was 22.
Her mother, Kimura Kyoko, has campaigned against cyber bullying to prevent similar damage. She herself has become a target of online defamation.
In response to her criminal complaint, Tokyo police have been trying to find those who wrote malicious posts and identified the man.
