A: Hey there! Did you hear about Ohtani's interpreter guy? B: Nah, what happened? A: Well, Mizuhara Ippei went to prison! He got caught for some bank fraud and tax return stuff. Turns out he moved 17 million bucks from Ohtani's account to pay off gambling debts! B: No way! Where is he now? A: They put him in a prison in Pennsylvania. It's in the eastern part of the U.S. I guess Southern California was not an option for him. B: That's weird, right? Why Pennsylvania? A: I don't know! They didn't give a reason. But he was supposed to go in March, but his lawyer asked for a delay, so he went last Monday instead. ---------------- The former interpreter for Los Angeles Dodgers star Ohtani Shohei has reported to prison after being found guilty of charges including bank fraud and filing a false tax return. Mizuhara Ippei was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison in February after being accused of transferring nearly 17 million dollars from Ohtani's bank account to pay back debt from illegal gambling. The US Federal Bureau of Prisons revealed to NHK on Monday that Mizuhara has begun serving his sentence at a prison in the eastern state of Pennsylvania. Mizuhara requested to be housed in Southern California at the time of his sentencing. It is unclear why he was imprisoned in the eastern US. The former interpreter was initially instructed to report to prison in March, but the date had been postponed at the request of his attorney.
