A Russian foreign ministry official says preparations are underway for a visit to Russia by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
Russian President Vladimir Putin invited Kim when the two met in Pyongyang last June. Putin said that he hoped their next summit would be held in Moscow.
Multiple media in Russia reported that Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko said on Thursday that Kim will visit Russia this year, and that the two sides are discussing the timetable and engagements.
Rudenko reportedly said that he personally had discussed Kim's visit to Russia during a trip to North Korea two weeks ago.
He noted that the strategic dialogue between Moscow and Pyongyang was launched when North Korea's Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui visited Russia last November.
Rudenko said that it is Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov's turn to visit Pyongyang this year to continue the dialogue and preparations are also being made for that trip.
