Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban on Tuesday made his first visit to Ukraine since Russia began its full-scale invasion of the neighboring country over two years ago. Orban held talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
                
A Hungarian government spokesperson said on social media that the prime minister had arrived in Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital, to discuss peace in Europe with Zelenskyy.
                
The Hungarian leader is known for his pro-Russian stance. He met Russian President Vladimir Putin in October, and has criticized the EU for its continuing support for Ukraine.
                
Hungary holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union from Monday through the end of the year.
                
Some have questioned whether the country will be able to fulfill the tasks related to the presidency.
                
Meanwhile, President Putin will attend a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to be held in Kazakhstan from Wednesday.
                
Russian sources say Putin is planning to hold separate meetings with Chinese President Xi Jinping and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
