Thousands of protesters have called for a general election at a rally in central London, as Britain is hit with record inflation and dissatisfaction with the ruling Conservative Party grows. Civic groups and trade unions held the rally on Saturday. People in Britain are struggling to keep up with soaring energy and food prices. The country saw the annual consumer price index rise to 10.1 percent in September. Last month, Rishi Sunak became the fifth British prime minister from the Conservatives since 2016. People are increasingly distrustful of politics and dissatisfied with the party. Demonstrators marched for about two and a half hours, chanting that they want the Tories out and demanding an immediate general election. A 66-year-old man said the current administration is not functioning, even though people are facing a critical situation due to surging living expenses. A 19-year-old woman said people could die as the government is not taking any measures before winter comes. Sunak plans to announce a medium-term fiscal plan on November 17.
