Zelenskyy to attend Munich Security Conference NHK

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is expected to appeal for continued military aid for his country at the annual Munich Security Conference.

The three-day gathering is scheduled to kick off in southern Germany on Friday. More than 100 ministers are taking part, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Ukraine's presidential office says Zelenskyy will attend a session on Saturday to deliver a speech in person. He is expected to call on participating countries to maintain and strengthen their support for Ukraine in its efforts to counter the intensifying Russian offensive.

Before attending the security meeting, Zelenskyy is also scheduled to meet Scholz in Berlin and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Friday.

This year's Munich conference comes amid signs of waning military assistance from Western nations for Ukraine.

The United States is the biggest backer of the country. But the US Congress remains divided over an emergency budget bill that includes aid to Ukraine.

During his visits to major European supporters, Zelenskyy is expected to stress the importance of their assistance, saying Ukraine's fight against Russia is a matter of Europe's security.
