Leisure fishing boat hits breakwater in western Japan, injuring 11 NHK

All eleven people including a captain onboard a leisure fishing boat were injured when it hit a breakwater in Tottori Prefecture in western Japan, facing the Sea of Japan. Two are seriously injured.

Coast Guard officials say that the boat, Daini Ai Maru, was cruising off the coast of Sakaiminato City when it hit the breakwater some 500 meters away from a quay at about 6:00 a.m. Sunday.

Emergency officials say that men from their 20s to their 60s were on board and that all of them were brought to a hospital.

One in his 40s and another in his 60s are said to have bumped their heads hard and were seriously injured.

Coast guard officials confirmed that the left side of the bow of the boat is damaged.

Elsewhere, about six kilometers northeast from the site, near a cape in Matsue City, another leisure fishing boat struck rocks at around 1:00 a.m. Five people were injured.
