Myanmar's military leader Min Aung Hlaing is visiting Russia, one of the junta's biggest arms suppliers. The Senior General met with President Vladimir Putin to strengthen ties between their countries. The leaders sat down on Tuesday in Moscow. Putin said relations between their countries are steadily growing, noting a 40 percent increase in trade over the past year. The general expressed Myanmar's total support of Russia in its conflict with Ukraine. The Kremlin announced after the meeting the two had agreed to work together in various fields, including trade, the economy and military. The two sides also agreed to work on the construction of a small-scale nuclear power plant in Myanmar. Putin invited the general to an annual military parade in Moscow in May. Russian state media report that a unit of the Myanmar military will take part. Myanmar's military seized power in a coup in 2021. The junta has since been fighting pro-democracy forces and armed ethnic minority groups. It has become increasingly isolated from the international community, instead strengthening ties with Russia and China.
