Singapore&#039;s deputy leader Lawrence Wong is set to be sworn in as the nation&#039;s fourth prime minister.
                
Wong&#039;s inauguration brings an end to two decades under Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and comes as Singapore faces growing domestic and international challenges.
                
The ceremony is scheduled to be held on Wednesday. Wong will succeed Lee, the eldest son of the first prime minister and the country&#039;s founding father, Lee Kwang-yu.
                
Wong, 51, is a former bureaucrat who grew up in a middle-class family. After serving as the Principal Private Secretary to Prime Minister Lee, he entered politics and was elected to Parliament in 2011.
                
Wong captured the spotlight as the co-chair of the COVID-19 taskforce.
In 2022 he was appointed deputy prime minister and successor to Lee.
                
The change of leadership marks the de facto end of politics led by the Lee family. The outgoing prime minister will remain in Wong&#039;s cabinet as a senior minister.
Attention is focused on how Wong will lead the country amid a declining birthrate and US-China tensions.
