NHK has learned that no emergency call was made from a Japan Air Self-Defense Force plane that crashed in central Japan on Wednesday and the two crew members did not eject. The Self-Defense Forces are continuing to search for them. A T-4 trainer jet went down in an irrigation reservoir in Aichi Prefecture's Inuyama City. The ASDF says the aircraft took off from Komaki Air Base in the prefecture at 3:06 p.m., and that about two minutes later it disappeared from radar at a point around 13 kilometers northeast of the base. Sources familiar with the matter said ground staff did not receive any mayday call and the crew did not make an emergency escape. The ASDF says the aircraft was on a flight to Nyutabaru Air Base in Miyazaki Prefecture, where it is based. The ASDF says no abnormality was found in checks before the flight and the weather was not inclement. At Irukaike Reservoir, parts of the plane, a helmet, a cap and other items have been found.
