Japan's Foreign Minister Kamikawa Yoko has pledged about 65 million dollars in additional humanitarian aid for the Gaza Strip during a visit to the West Bank city of Ramallah. Kamikawa met Palestinian Authority Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki on Friday for about 50 minutes. The meeting came after she held talks with her Israeli counterpart in Tel Aviv. Japan has already pledged 10 million dollars in emergency humanitarian assistance for civilians in Gaza. Kamikawa told Maliki that she is paying close attention to the situation. She also expressed her condolences to the families of those who have been killed in the violence. Kamikawa said Japan condemns terrorist attacks by Hamas and others, and calls for the immediate release of hostages and a de-escalation of the situation as soon as possible. She told Maliki that the priority should be delivering necessary assistance to people in Gaza. Kamikawa said Japan will provide relief supplies through the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Maliki expressed gratitude for Japan's support, and said violence is also increasing in the West Bank. Kamikawa told Maliki that Japan continues to support a two-state solution, whereby Israel and a future independent Palestinian state live side by side. The ministers confirmed they will work together to that end.
