Ukrainians have seen another volley of Russian missiles hit their energy infrastructure. They had been expecting the strikes for days.

Residents of the capital, Kyiv, heard the familiar call of air raid sirens on Monday. They headed underground to take cover.

Air defense units tried to intercept the missiles. They shot down more than 60 of the over 70 that were fired. Still, the Russians managed to hit some of their targets and knock out electricity again.

"The air defenses shot down most missiles. And energy workers have begun restoring power. Our people never give up," said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Russian troops had come under fire themselves hours earlier. They accused Ukrainian forces of drone attacks on two bases inside Russia. They said three servicemen were killed.

Russian leaders have seen their troops suffer a string of setbacks, including the bombing in October of one of their main supply lines, a bridge linking Russia to Crimea. President Vladimir Putin has tried to boost morale by driving across the bridge.

Ukrainian forces never claimed responsibility for the bombing. Still, the Russians blamed Ukrainian intelligence agents then retaliated with attacks on civilian targets they said were "revenge."
