A: Hey, did you catch the news today?

B: No, what's up?

A: Israel just announced a big military operation in Gaza. They're sending troops in, and they say they've taken out loads of Hamas fighters and destroyed some of their facilities.

B: Woah, that sounds intense! And the airforce is bombing too, right?

A: Yeah, Palestinians are reporting 17 deaths from airstrikes yesterday alone in Khan Younis and other places. It's really serious. They even showed footage of an overloaded hospital there.

B: That's horrible! I heard it's been causing lots of casualties every day...

A: Exactly, more than 100 people have died so far. It doesn't look like it'll stop anytime soon...

B: But what about the people in Gaza? Don't they need help?

A: Well, the Israeli government said they'll let some food into Gaza now, but they've been blocking aid since early March. Gazans are struggling with a shortage of food and medicine...

Against this backdrop, the Israeli government announced on Sunday it will allow a basic amount of food to be brought into Gaza.
        
                    
                  
It has blocked humanitarian aid from being brought into the strip since early March. Gazans face an acute shortage of food and medicine.
        
                    
                  
It remains to be seen whether the food will reach the over 2 million Gazans in the enclave amid intensifying ground operations and airstrikes.
