B: No, what’s up? Something new?

A: Yeah, it's called Nipah. It's from India.

B: Nipah? Never heard of it! Is it bad?

A: Pretty serious, apparently. They found two cases recently.

B: Two cases? Are they worried about lots of people getting it?

A: Well, the government says it’s probably contained. They checked 196 people connected to those cases, and everyone was okay.

B: That’s good news! But I saw on the news that airports in Thailand and Indonesia are being extra careful.

A: Right! They're using those heat scanners for arrivals.

B: Makes sense. Everyone's still a little nervous after Corona, right? I saw a tourist in Bali said the same thing!

A: Totally! It's been a scary few years.

A: Apparently, bats and pigs can spread it. And it can spread between people too.

B: Oh no! And is there a cure?

A: Sadly, no vaccines yet. It causes fever and...brain problems. The really scary part is that it's quite dangerous – 40 to 75 percent of people who get it, die.

B: Wow, that’s awful. I'm glad they’re watching it closely!

A: Me too! Let's hope it doesn't spread.
