The death toll from an explosion in Pakistan's northwest is rising. Local police say the blast inside a crowded mosque in the city of Peshawar killed at least 100 people and injured over 220 others. It happened on Monday inside a highly fortified compound housing a provincial police and counter-terror headquarters. The mosque is usually kept under tight security and cannot be accessed without passing through several checkpoints. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the wounded in hospital. He condemned the attack on Twitter, describing the scale of the tragedy as "unimaginable." No one has claimed responsibility, but police suspect it was a terrorist attack targeting police officers. The Pakistani Taliban has denied any involvement.
